It is said that a scent, a sound, or a single object, can instantly take us back to another time, another place.
In 2003, catching sight of a child's Antique Red Tricycle in a Melbourne
almost took my breath away.
That little Red Trike brought about an immediate sense of nostalgia and caused me to reminisce on simpler, innocent times -
when Adulthood seemed 'forever away'.
This introspection manifested itself in my paintings and,
for the first time,
I was inspired, and compelled, to paint my personal journey.
Often I was not even aware of the story I was revealing
until I could retrospectively consider my finished paintings.
My Red Trike story seemed to gather momentum,
to be joined by an Antique Red Scooter.
Then came dark-haired, wide-eyed
Scarlett, and perhaps inevitably,
my never-diminishing love of 'Alice in Wonderland'
entered my images - sometimes with gentle confrontations
between Scarlett and Alice.
The end result, some 5 years later, is what I now call
'My Red Vintage Obsession'.
Please enjoy the ride !
